Kravice and Mostar: Day Trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina

It was our second full day in Croatia [see post: In and Around the Walls of Dubrovnik]. We were off to Bosnia and Herzegovina for the day. Prior to arriving in Croatia, I booked the “Mostar and Kravice Waterfalls Tour from Dubrovnik” through Viator, operated by Laus-Travel. Given the close proximity, it would have been a shame not to have crossed the border, even if just for the day.

Kravice. Pocitelj. Mostar.
After getting picked up from Pile Gate, we immediately started driving toward the Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina border, passing by the Elaphites and through beautiful seaside villages located on the Dubrovnik Riviera. Less than an hour later, we reached the border and entered the countryside.

First stop: Kravice Waterfalls – a large tufa cascade on the Trebizat River. We were given free time to wander around the area and swim. None of us had packed a change of clothes, so instead, we enjoyed a cup of coffee in front of one scenic backdrop.

On the way to Mostar, we stopped to visit the medieval town of Pocitelj.

Upon arrival in Mostar, we headed straight for the iconic Old Bridge – a reconstructed medieval arched bridge.

Per the itinerary, Mostar is the town where the north meets the south and the west meets the east, a town where the Neretva River divides cultures and religions over the centuries, where the differences and contrasts can be seen on each corner.

This description could not have been any more accurate. The dominant influence of centuries-long Turkish rule was evident. Wooden Balconies. Minarets. Copper souvenirs.

If you find yourself with extra time in Dubrovnik, you should definitely consider taking a day trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Just do not forget to bring your passport, you will need it for crossing the border.
