Three Countries in One Day
It was day two of our trip to Barcelona [see post: Barcelona. My Next Move?]. We were off to Andorra and France for the day. Prior to arriving in Spain, I booked the “Three Countries in One Day: France, Andorra and Spain from Barcelona” full-day tour through Viator. Given the close proximity, it would have been a shame not to have visited Andorra.
On the way to the French border, we stopped at the medieval Spanish village of Baga.
A quiet, but proud Catalan village. The short walking tour concluded with an opportunity to grab some breakfast at a typical cafe. Coffee in hand, we wandered the cobblestone streets, gazing at the mountains peaking in the background.
From Baga, we headed deeper into the countryside.
Over a bridge, we entered France. The next stop was the ancient spa town of Ax Les Thermes. The guide showed us around the small town, pointing out the natural fountains. It was too cold to soak our feet.
Instead, we roamed the streets and browsed the local artisan shops.
Andorra was next. The route took us through the beautiful Pyrenees Alps to Andorra la Vella, the capital of the small country. On the way, we stopped to admire the incredible views from a high mountain pass.
As we descended into Andorra, we made a quick stop in the valley to get a glimpse of how Andorra used to be.
From here, we drove straight to Andorra la Vella, where we were given some free time. For most, Andorra is known for its duty free shopping. We, however, just wanted to explore.
Before we knew it, our time was up. Although the jam-packed itinerary allowed for little time at each stop, we were able to visit three countries in one day. We had about a three-hour bus ride back to Barcelona. Exhausted, I dozed off staring into the beautiful landscape escaping through the window.
